Commercial Photography in Scottsdale | The Look
By Stuart Herrick: September 1, 2024
An up-and-coming Dance Instructor and Yoga Teacher who wanted to showcase her personality reached out to the studio and asked if it would be possible to incorporate her personality into a portrait. She wanted a bit of edge, a little bit of contemporary, to show off her physique but still remain approachable-looking—the latter part was the least of her concerns. She has a very distinct brand, and that is what she wanted to use as her differentiation.
We needed to incorporate the color red into her images. However, she did not want to wear red, pose in front of anything red, or have red be a natural part of the image. Finally, the color red needed to fall into her brand’s RGB color palette. Perfect!
We went to work creating a shot list. I went to work scouting locations. We met for the shoot, walked, talked, and absolutely crushed it.
The top image was created using various strobes, some sunlight, and Photoshop to add the red radial gradient. It is simple yet very effective and exactly what she was looking for.
I love this shot for several reasons. The strong lines of the door created an excellent contrast to her pose and body. She more or less put a foot up and then leaned against the door. I had her stretch her arms out to make it look as though she was holding the door in place; I then asked her to relax her body a little. The final look is amazing.
Locations are about creativity and comfort. With my years of experience, I will help you achieve your desired look. We will find a location that speaks to you.
